Memorial Day Weekend Ride (Sunday) 5-30-10

I took a nice ride on the Line between Douglas and Withrow on my bike and it was surprisingly easy going. It was an overcast Sunday afternoon of Memorial Weekend. The following pictures below are from that ride.

Looking on the upgrade across bridge #40 just south of Douglas

Large cast culvert pipe just a mile or so SW of Supplee

Supplee

AC 440 tractor used to push box cars back in the day

Withrow

Station sign poles (old wood station sign)

What remains of bridge #41

I came across a large pile of galvanized flashing. I assumed it came from bridge #41

Darrin,
Does the railroad still own parts of the line? BNSF still owns part of the branch between Coulee City and Adrian that was abandoned between 1979 and 1983.

Most of the Right of Way in the Moses Coulee area was vacated and went back to the adjacent landowners. All of the ROW from about the tunnel to Alstown is owned by the BLM. Most of that stretch is pretty much non-motorized vehicles only. From about Alstown to Mansfield the entire ROW is owned by the Davis Land Group LLC out of Olympia, WA. I have no idea what their angle is on owning it. Central Washington Grain Growers owns the ROW at each of the Stations. What's great is that a guy can pretty much ride their bike the entire way from Douglas to Mansfield without really deviating away from the road bed. I saw a couple flanger signs and a railroad crossing sign that I might go back out and pick up. It was a fun ride last Sunday.
